Code of Conduct

Important

We firmly believe in the value and importance of an environment where all participants in events feel welcome and safe, without exception. This Code of Conduct explains the type of behavior we expect from members of the Photowalk group and participants in organized events. The terms of this Code of Conduct are not negotiable.
We will not tolerate behaviors that violate this Code of Conduct, in order to ensure a positive experience of learning, collaboration, and leisure.

Why a Code of Conduct?

It establishes what kind of atmosphere is expected at any event organized within the Photowalk group:

  • It helps people know they are welcome in the group.
  • It avoids ambiguity.
  • It builds a climate of trust, so if someone wants to report an incident, they know we won’t start with victim blaming.

Scope

We expect all participants in both in‑person and online events to respect the principles of this Code of Conduct. It also applies to public spaces where a person represents the group, as well as related events (social or otherwise). Examples of the latter include using the official email account, posting through official social media outlets, or giving presentations on behalf of PHWK at events, whether online or offline.

Our Standards

  • Show empathy and kindness toward others.
  • Respect different opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.
  • Offer and accept constructive criticism appropriately.
  • Behave in a way that fosters a safe and supportive environment for all event participants.
  • Refrain from disruptive behavior or interfering with the event or others’ ability to participate.
  • Do not engage in any form of harassing, offensive, humiliating, discriminatory, or threatening speech or behavior, including (but not limited to) those based on race, gender, gender identity and expression, nationality, religion, disability, marital status, age, sexual orientation, or any other protected category.
  • Take responsibility and apologize to those affected by our mistakes, learning from the experience.
  • Focus on what’s best not only for ourselves but for the community as a whole.
  • Use inclusive language that welcomes a diverse audience.
  • Pay special attention to newcomers to the community.
  • Introduce yourself with your pronouns and ask for others’ pronouns to ensure clear, unbiased communication.
  • Follow the instructions of event staff and venue personnel.
  • Comply with all applicable laws.

Examples of Unacceptable Behavior

  • Use of sexualized language or imagery, and any type of sexual attention or advances.
  • Derogatory, insulting, or trolling comments, and personal or political attacks.
  • Racist, sexist, or exclusionary jokes.
  • Harassment in public or private.
  • Sharing someone’s private information, such as physical or email addresses, without their explicit permission.
  • Any form of harassing, offensive, humiliating, discriminatory, or threatening speech or behavior as described above.
  • Other behaviors that could reasonably be seen as inappropriate in a professional setting.

Harassment includes offensive comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, or religion; public pornography; deliberate intimidation; stalking; inappropriate photography or recording; constant interruptions during talks or other events; unwanted physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention.

Consequences

If we determine that someone is not complying with this Code of Conduct, we may deny them entry or request that they leave all event premises. All decisions are at our sole discretion. We may involve local authorities if deemed appropriate. Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in disqualification from future events.

Reporting & Contact Information

Instances of abusive, harassing, or unacceptable behavior can be reported to the group administrators responsible for enforcing this Code of Conduct, by the victim or any attendee:

  • For in‑person events, contact the event organizers directly.
  • For online spaces, contact the moderators of that space.
  • For other contexts or as an alternative, contact the Photowalk group organizers.
  • All administrators are required to respect the privacy and safety of those who report incidents.
